In this series, I use colors, angles, & shapes to bring forth the archetypal and essential via repetition of color, pure geometric shape, and expressive, explosive calligraphic marks. The series is long running and spans diverse media, some pieces six feet tall and others far smaller, incorporating ink, acrylic, casein, pastel, gold leaf and oil on canvas and paper.

The scale of these works and direct nature of the forms and marks allows the viewer to interpret the painting personally and experience it viscerally, closely paralleling my own experience while painting.

The gestural nature of my “hand” is evident whether the media is ink, casein, charcoal, acrylic, oil, or intaglio. I have been strongly influenced by abstract painters, political artists, science and have pursued a personal mark making informed by Chinese painting and studies of the natural world. The marks have become a language of their own in my paintings.
